Description from the seller
Pair of French Art Deco Bookends - Swooping Swallows - c. 1930
A beautiful and dynamic pair of authentic Art Deco bookends dating from the 1930s-1940s. These pieces feature stylized swallows (or seagulls) in full flight, a classic motif of the era symbolizing freedom and speed.
The sculptures are crafted in patinated spelter (régule) with a warm bronze/gold finish, capturing the sleek, geometric lines typical of the "Streamline Moderne" period. Each bird is mounted on a solid, bevelled marble base with attractive natural veining in shades of beige and ochre.
- **Period:** Art Deco, approx. 1930-1940
- **Origin:** France
- **Material:** Patinated Spelter (Régule) and Marble
- **Design Style:** Animalier / Art Deco
- **Signature:** Unsigned (in the manner of Jacques Limousin or Irénée Rochard)
In good vintage condition with signs of wear consistent with age. The metal patina shows some charming age-related character. The marble bases are solid, with only minor nibbles/chips at the corners, which is common for authentic pieces of this period. (Please see photos for a detailed view of the condition).
**Dimensions (per piece):** H : 12 cm ; L : 15.5 cm ; l : 8 cm
A perfect addition to any Art Deco collection or a sophisticated decorative touch for a vintage-inspired library.
The product will be professionally packed and sent safely to your address by local post.
The pictures of the product are made with the highest possible resolution, precisely to capture possible small defects (small scratches, stains, defect), the pictures are part of the product description.
