Description from the seller
A0000004724
The cane presents a general condition in line with its age, preserving an attractive original character and evidencing real use over time.
The wooden shaft shows a beautiful natural grain with a homogeneous darkened patina from the passage of the years. There are light surface marks, small scuffs, and signs of use distributed along the shaft, not affecting its structural integrity. The wood remains solid, with no serious cracks or visible repairs that would compromise its stability.
The solid silver handle is firmly fixed. It shows surface wear, micro-scratches, and a natural patina that enhances its antiquity, with chisel details still well defined. The punches are visible, though partially softened by use, which is typical for pieces of this era.
The intermediate metal ferrule shows signs of use and slight oxidation, consistent with the cane’s age.
The lower ferrule (tip) shows wear from ground contact, with deformation and material loss at the base, something entirely expected in canes used regularly.
Overall, it is an authentic piece, without invasive restorations, that preserves its original essence and is very attractive for both collection and decorative use.
Conservation recommendations
Avoid prolonged exposure to humidity or direct sunlight. For the wood, keep in a dry, stable environment; the silver can be cleaned occasionally with specific products, avoiding aggressive polishing to preserve the original patina. Handle with care and avoid abrupt supports to preserve the integrity of the tip.
Happy bidding!
