A trifold clock with a bronze Rococo frame finished in gold and painted glass panels featuring oriental motifs, dating to 1910–1920, with enamel and bronze materials, a quartz mechanism and long power reserve, in non-working condition and overall acceptable from heavy use with possible small missing parts.
Description from the seller
Desktop triptych-style frame with a clock. The chassis is in Rococo style, made of bronze with a gold finish. The sinuous shapes, shells (rocaille) and volutes are typical of this decorative style. It features striking lacquered or painted on glass with oriental iconography: perched birds on branches, cherry blossoms (sakura), cobwebs, and a full moon against a deep black background. This contrast between the European frame and Japanese art was the epitome of Japonisme fashion. The piece retains a high decorative value thanks to the beauty of its painted panels and the quality of the frame’s casting. It is a very visual object that fits perfectly in Vintage or Hollywood Regency decors.
Annotation: The clock mechanism has been replaced with a modern one, though we do not know the operating condition of the mechanism and a screw is missing at the back.
Please pay special attention to the photographs as they are part of the description.
Dimensions: 32.5 cm high x 43 cm long (open).
Weight: 2.21 Kg.
