Description from the seller
The third edition of this beautiful, much-praised book is now available with a redesigned, embossed linen hardcover and a debossed image.
The book captures Yamamoto's work and sensitivity on an unprecedented scale. Yamamoto combines Japanese traditions with contemporary imagery in poetic, lyrical compositions that move and inspire.
Small Things in Silence offers a glimpse into twenty years of the career of one of Japan's most famous photographers. In Yamamoto's own words: "I try to capture moments that no one sees and make a photograph of them. When I see them printed, a new story begins."
Photographer Masao Yamamoto, born in 1957 in Gamagori, in Japan's Aichi Prefecture, began his artistic training as an oil painter. Masao quickly discovered that photography was the ideal medium for the subject that interested him most: images that evoke memories.
Small Things in Silence includes images from each of Yamamoto's major projects – Box of Ku, Nakazora, Kawa and Shizuka – as well as images from some of his original photographic installations. Masao Yamamoto (1957, Japan) is known for his small photographs, through which he individualizes photographic prints as objects.
