Gabriel Hermeling (1833-1904) was one of the most important German gold- and silversmiths of the late 19th/early 20th century. He was appointed court goldsmith in Cologne and is famous for his high-quality silverware in historical revival styles and early Art Nouveau. His pieces are highly collectible and regularly appear in international auctions.
This charming small bowl has a beautiful scalloped (wavy) rim and is richly decorated with embossed floral and sunburst motifs around the border – a classic example of fine German silver craftsmanship from the period.
