AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Exceptionally signed copy by Giuseppe Leone (1936 – 2024) on the front free endpaper, unavailable in signed or unsigned copies, off-market copy from the Lions Club of Ragusa. 118 pages and 58 full-page black-and-white photographs, either as full-bleed images or double-page spreads, with text by Diego Mormorio. At the end of the book, a very practical diptych fold-out with captions of the photographs, viewable on any page you look at. Gray cloth binding with the title embossed in light gray on the cover and a illustrated dust jacket on the cover. Copy in very good condition.

To view the photographic series in full screen, double-click on a photograph, with the option to return to the standard display at any time.

The human element is very present in these photographs: fishermen, peasants, shepherds tending flocks, men making charcoal or gathering olives using the old manual technique, children in communion attire or playing their childhood games, elderly people in conversation, village religious celebrations and wedding festivities.

Born in Ragusa, Giuseppe Leone began as an apprentice at 14 in a photographer’s shop and has continued photographing ever since. He was 16 when he produced one of his most famous photographs, with a steam train crossing a bridge over a torrent, Ragusa in the background. He quickly opened his own photographic studio, intensely photographed Sicily and the southern part of Italy. His photographs have toured the world, he published nearly 80 books, and accumulated a photographic archive of more than 300,000 photographs.

Book from my personal collection, in excellent condition with a hint of old moisture that does not affect the quality of the photographs (see photos), copy kept with the greatest care. Very effective protected shipping and international tracked postal service guaranteed. In case of multiple purchases, possibility of grouped shipment with refund of any overpaid postage via Paypal.
