Description from the seller
Large solid-silver ewer dating from the first half of the 19th century.
The ewer rests on three feet joined to the body by cartouches with scrolls. The handle is made of blackened wood. The body, well-rounded, is in plain silver engraved with the initials AR.
By family tradition, from which the ewer comes, the initials AR belong to Albert Rostand (1818 - 1891), founder of the Compagnie des Messageries Maritimes in 1851.
The ewer is stamped:
. Minerva 1st title mark before 1973 for 950/°° silver
. Maker's mark: PQ with a double oar in the antique style for Pierre-François Queillé II, active 1834 to 1846
Examination of the marks allows dating these carafes between 1838 and 1846, i.e., during the reign of Louis-Philippe. Which corresponds to the attribution of the initials.
Very beautiful and massive ewer, with a classic and elegant design, dating from the first half of the 19th century.

Approximately 11 cm maximum diameter
468 grams gross
Capacity of about 85 cl
