Hollow, solid silver bowl with enamel, dating to 1940–1950, made in Greece, weighing 161.3 g, 15 cm in diameter and 4.5 cm high, with a hammered mounting, a knotted border, and a central cloisonné enamel motif typical of Russian enamel tradition.
Description from the seller
Magnificent hollow cup in solid silver and enamel.
The cup has been entirely hammered in the traditional way and preserves the marks of this work that catch the light.
The rim is decorated with a corded frieze.
The center of the cup forms a raised navel-like boss adorned with a magnificent wide cloisonné enamel motif, typical of the Russian goldsmithing tradition.
The bowl is stamped on the reverse:
. 935 for the silver fineness
. 339 (?) probably an atelier number
The absence of any other hallmark besides the fineness makes identification difficult, although the central motif is typical of Russian enamel production. It is probably a 20th-century production made in Russia or in a country within the sphere of Russian cultural influence.
The shape of this cup combined with this technique could indicate use for caviar, the enamel motif revealing itself as the tasting proceeds.
It is a magnificent object, of superb workmanship, created by a talented goldsmith who will elevate your table for a festive meal.
15 cm in diameter
4.5 cm high
161.3 grams
