Description from the seller
One of the most classic ashtrays is a famous example of Danish minimalism.
Design: The ashtray was designed by architect Arne Jacobsen.
Series: It is a central part of the Cylinda-line series, which is characterized by its uncompromising use of geometric, cylindrical shapes.
Year: The series was launched in 1967 after several years of intensive product development work to master the technique for producing the heavy stainless steel.
Already that same year, the series received the prestigious ID award from the Society for Industrial Design.
The idea behind the design
The vision with Cylinda-line was to create a complete series of service for the home and bar, where all parts fit together in a rigorous, industrial look.
Functionality: The iconic tilt function (the hemisphere with the small stick) is intended as a practical solution to hide ash and shutters with a single push, which also helps to minimize odors.
It also made the ashtray incredibly suitable for outdoor use on the terrace table or in outdoor cafes.
Industrial elegance: At the time, stainless steel was a modern material, and Arne Jacobsen wanted to elevate it from everyday use to high-end design that could replace the more maintenance-intensive silverware.
The model in the picture is about 6.5 cm high with a diameter of 7.5 cm.
