Description from the seller

Mask Songye Kifwebe Kilume
Buchi and Masende: the Bifwebe in African art
A powerful Songye mask used within the Bwadi bwa Kifwebe society. This traditional mask takes three-dimensional form in a very cubist manner. One finds a large midline crest on the forehead, separating the two mitoshi protruding eyes that are pierced at the base. The tall crest indicates that this is a male mask, Kilume; female masks are kikashi and lack this crest. The mouth is also protruding and ends with cross-shaped lips. The higher the crest on the kifwebe mask, the greater the magical and mythical power.
