Sphere carved from a single large block of natural malachite from Congo, an area known for the quality and color intensity of this mineral. The material was selected for compactness and structural variety, then worked and polished to best emphasize the natural pattern.
The surface shows a well-defined combination of structures: at the top there are flowing, layered concentric bands, while at the bottom a typical botryoidal texture develops, composed of compact globular aggregates. The transition zone between these two morphologies is particularly evident and represents an element of great collector's interest.
The tones range from deep dark green to lighter, more translucent shades, with natural contrasts generated by the mineral's growth in an oxidative environment. In some areas small cavities and granular variations are visible, an authentic testimony of the formation process.
Malachite is a basic copper carbonate, formed by alteration of primary minerals in the presence of carbon dioxide-rich solutions. The botryoidal and banded structures derive from different deposition conditions, which are directly reflected in the visible pattern.
