Elegant Double Bed Linen Set in Fine White Cotton – Handmade Cutwork Embroidery and Satin Stitch – Hand-finished Scalloped Edge
Up for auction: a magnificent vintage matrimonial linen set, a masterpiece of the Italian linen-trousseau tradition. The set is made from pure white cotton fabric of excellent quality, featuring a tight weave that is fresh and very durable.
Details of the Embroidery
The highlight of this lot is the extraordinary workmanship of the hem:
Full-length Ruffle: The precious embroidery extends horizontally along the entire length of the sheet strip, creating a continuous frieze of great splendor.
Artisanal Skill: The floral decoration is entirely handmade using cutwork (openwork) and raised satin stitch. Large roses and classic swirls follow in harmony, bearing witness to hours of patient manual work.
Scalloped Edge: Both the sheet and the pillowcases have a hand-made festoon (scalloped) finish that follows the wavy profile of the design.

1 Top Sheet: Large dimensions about 250 x 220 cm for a double bed, with a richly embroidered hem along the full width.
2 Pillowcases: Generous dimensions of 84 x 59 cm, decorated with corner floral motifs and scalloped edges.
Condition
The set is in excellent vintage condition. The fabric is solid and well preserved. Never used. As typical of vintage pieces stored in a chest, there may be light and small storage marks (shading or tiny halos) easily removable with a normal wash or treatment for antique linens. It shows no tears or wear.
