Antique Delft Blue Memorial Plaque – “Faithful unto Death” – about 1941

A special and rare Delft Blue wall plate with an impressive historical and symbolic depiction. At the center is a rustic landscape with a weeping willow and a cross, surrounded by a fence – a restrained and meaningful composition. The edge bears the text “Faithful unto death” and at the bottom the year 1940, referring to the early period of World War II in the Netherlands.

This type of plate was often made as a memorial or commemorative piece and thus has not only decorative but also emotional and historical value.

The plate was produced around 1941, as evidenced by the signature and marks on the back, and is hand-painted in traditional cobalt-blue tones.
