Description from the seller
Regency Style Mirror, Carved Wood, 19th c. – France
Impressive French Regency-style mirror made in the early 19th century in France, a period when some of the past French styles were revived. French Regency refers to the period after the death of Louis XIV, from September 1, 1715 to February 15, 1723, during which King Louis XV was underage and France was governed by the Regent Philippe d'Orléans.
This exuberant gilt mirror presents a rectangular shape surrounded by an exquisitely gold-leafed, highly ornate frame. The frame is not uniform in width; it broadens and is elaborately decorated at the corners and especially at the top, where a large, ornate pediment or crest unfolds, featuring in its central area a cornucopia of abundance with flowers highlighted against the silvered background; framed by a multitude of rhinestones that create a kind of ephemeral architecture. It calls to mind the imposing console or palace wall mirrors of the 18th century.
With this exquisite mirror you will bring a refined and elegant style to any space and setting. They are highly sought-after in the art market for their refinement and timeless aesthetics. Suitable in any environment, whether in a composition with others mirrors or as a single, grand presence piece.
