Description from the seller
Splendid and large sculpture/seat in teak wood from the 20th century, molded as a hand, inspired by the work of "Pedro Friedeberg," the Mexican artist and designer (born in Florence in 1936), known for his works that combined elements of surrealism and functionality. The sculpture/seat is achieved by assembling two blocks of very hard and heavy teak wood: the first piece forms the base and is carved from a trunk in the shape of a squared cylinder, while the other piece—the hand itself—is manually carved, highlighting the folds and nails incised in a very realistic way, so much that the seating surface actually looks like the palm of a real hand. The two pieces are interlocked and locked by wooden pins, which make the structure particularly solid and stable. The sculpture was created between the 1950s and 1960s and is larger and heavier than those seen on the market. The hand has undergone a thorough reconstructive restoration and is presented in good condition, with signs of wear compatible with its age and use. For its beauty and composition it can be considered a true work of art; there are also beautiful grain patterns and shades of teak in different colors, lighter and darker, which make this object very special, surely appreciated and sought after by any lover of art and design.
