Description from the seller

Napoléon III antique brass gilded vanity mirror – rocaille decor – circa 1900

There are objects that stand the test of time… and continue to tell a story.

This antique dressing mirror, dating from the second half of the 19th century, fully embodies the refined aesthetics of the Napoléon III era.

Inspired by the Rococo forms of the 18th century, it captivates with its elegance, the richness of its decoration, and the finesse of its craftsmanship.

Mounted on a stand in finely carved gilded brass, it features an oval frame adorned with regular friezes and topped by a pierced pediment with delicate scrolls.

The side uprights, finished with turned elements and the original adjusting knob, allow the mirror to tilt — a detail that is both practical and emblematic of dressing-table pieces from this period.

The back is clad in deep red velvet, aged by time, which enhances its authentic character and old-fashioned charm.

With its generous dimensions (56 x 38 cm), this mirror surpasses a mere utilitarian object: it becomes a true decorative piece, ideal on a dressing table, a commode, or in an interior with a classic, romantic, or eclectic style.

Features :
Era : Napoléon III, circa 1870–1890
Material : gilded brass / bronze
Decor : rocaille, volutes, floral motifs
Pivoting mirror with original mechanism
Back in old red velvet
Dimensions : 56 cm (height) x 38 cm (width)

Condition :
Good overall condition with a uniform patina, bearing witness to its authenticity. Some signs of time visible (slight oxidation, micro-scratches), without altering its solidity or aesthetics. Mirror stable and functional.

An object full of character, at once elegant and rich in history, which will naturally find its place in a well-kept interior or in a collection of antique objects.
