The Theresenthial manufactory was founded in 1836 by Franz Steigerwald with the support of none other than King Ludwig I of Bavaria. The very name of the factory is a tribute to the king's wife, Queen Teresa (Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen). From the outset, Theresienthal has been tied to the aristocracy.
