Description from the seller
1) Sculptures: Africa, Asia, Oceania, Americas
The event is both historical and symbolic: a selection of about 120 masterpieces of African, Asian, Oceanic, and American art is now on view at the Louvre. These fine sculptures come primarily from the Musée de l'Homme, the Musée National des Arts d'Afrique et d'Océanie and several other French national or local museums. In addition, a number of important foreign museums have agreed to lend significant works, some of which have never been seen outside their country of origin. Moreover, this presentation marks the first opportunity to see some of the remarkable acquisitions with which French museums have recently consolidated their own holdings. In anticipation of the opening of the Musée du Quai Branly in 2004, this Pavillon des Sessions display represents the first step toward realizing the president of the republic's ambition: namely to give France a modern institution devoted to the arts and civilizations of Africa, Asia, the Pacific Islands and America. 476 pages; language English
2) Expressions of Belief: Masterpieces of African, Oceanic and Indonesian Art Suzanne Greub
Expressions of Belief, Masterpieces of African, Oceanic and Indonesian Art from the Museum Volkenkunde Rotterdam. 248 pages; language English
3) The Pacific Islands, Africa, and the Americas
Newton, Douglas A broad selection of the arts of these regions is now housed in the Metropolitan Museum's Michael C. Rockefeller Wing.
