Description from the seller
GENERAL:
For sale is a meticulously maintained Mercedes-Benz 320 SL (R129) from January 1994 with 156,300 kilometers on the odometer. It is an accident-free German vehicle with a flawless service history, delivered with three original keys and its complete onboard tool kit. A current appraisal attests to an excellent overall grade of 2+ for the car, underscoring its superb condition and high value retention.
Historical background and anecdotes about the model: The R129, presented in 1989 at the Geneva Motor Show, is today regarded as a milestone in automotive history. Designed by the design legend Bruno Sacco, the luxurious roadster impressed with its timeless, straight-edged wedge shape and groundbreaking safety innovations. It became famous for the world’s first electrically/hydraulically deployed rollover bar, which automatically rises within 0.3 seconds in the event of a potential rollover. The 320 SL succeeded the legendary 300 SL-24 in autumn 1993. It introduced the smooth-running M104 inline-six with four-valve technology and variable valve timing (VVT). This engine perfectly combines Mercedes-Benz’s classic six-cylinder engine culture with noticeably more torque in the mid-range and is regarded by connoisseurs as one of the most durable engines ever built in Stuttgart.
BODYWORK & PAINT:
The bodywork is in immaculate condition and completely free of rust, dents, or scratches. The car presents in the shiny original paint in a stylish gray-beige metallic finish. No welding work has ever been done on the body panels. The rubber seals are supple all around and in flawless condition. The fabric soft top looks visually and technically perfect and is absolutely watertight. The original hardtop in body color that is included with the car has hardly been used and is in like-new condition.
TECHNICAL:
Under the hood lies the sought-after 3.2-liter inline-six (M104) with four-valve technology, paired with a silky-smooth automatic transmission. The engine starts reliably when cold and warm, runs ultra-smoothly, and does not lose oil at any point. Brakes and transmission operate flawlessly. The car is fully roadworthy; there is no maintenance backlog. About a year ago the control unit, the throttle body, and the electrical wiring loom (which is typically prone to issues for a car of this age) were professionally renewed. The brake pads were changed two years ago, and the SL has hardly been driven since. An unused spare wheel is in its place.
INTERIOR:
The interior is in excellent condition, well above average, with only minimal, age-appropriate signs of use. The seats are upholstered in original beige-brown leather, which remains elastic and shows no meaningful wear, perfectly harmonizing with the noble gray-beige metallic exterior color.
DOCUMENTS:
The vehicle has German registration and all necessary documents. The history is transparently traceable through the existing and well-maintained maintenance log. The main inspection (TÜV) was carried out recently and is valid until April 2028. The current valuation report (grade 2+) is also available in writing.
COLLECTION:
The Mercedes-Benz is located in Germany, postal code 56459, in Winnen (Westerwald), available for inspection and collection.
FURTHER INFORMATION:
This is a classic over 30 years old in collector’s condition. Despite minor, inevitable signs of use, the overall condition fully matches the excellent rating of the appraisal. Serious prospective buyers are warmly invited to view the vehicle on site in advance.

Disclaimer
Catawiki always aims to offer you the best possible buying experience. Our experts virtually review and select every vehicle in line with our submission guidelines and we require our sellers to provide the most accurate description of the vehicle. However, providing a fully detailed analysis of the vehicle is extremely difficult, and close to impossible. To guide you, we ask our sellers to provide information about the vehicle’s condition. Please consider that most vehicles for sale are classic vehicles and they often already have a whole life behind them, meaning that even a condition 1 or 2 vehicle might need maintenance to be ready for the road. It is advised to carefully read our submission guidelines that further describe details about the condition grades and types to manage your expectations. Cars are sold “as is”, meaning as described and in the condition they are in at the time of the sale and without any representation, warranty or assumption of liability of any kind as to the condition by Catawiki or by the seller. The condition of this item is the opinion of the seller and may differ from yours, your local garage, or the dealer’s opinion. This does not automatically mean the car does not conform to its description. Before bidding, please check your local legislation regarding vehicle registration. Neither the seller nor Catawiki is responsible for the registration of the vehicle in your country and will not accept a cancellation for your failure to register the vehicle. We also recommend that, if possible, you arrange a viewing with the seller before placing a bid.
