Rare Dan typology, with a striking presence: a powerful face, carved in dense wood, entirely darkened by a deep patina, with this ochre-red origin band crossing the gaze like a sign of authority. The volumes are clear, the expression deliberately hard: strong nose, open mouth, red tongue still visible, and visible teeth — an expressive register uncommon among the Dan, which immediately evokes functions of control, intimidation and “putting in order” during masked performances.

The relief-engraved coiffure, the material polished by handling, and above all the beard in fibers/hair (preserved, which is rare) give the whole an extraordinary intensity. This type of mask, often associated with ritual interventions and a figure of power, stands out as much for its graphics as for its “incarnate” character: you can sense that it has lived.
