19th‑century miniature portrait by Rodol Huet in Realism, executed in watercolour and gouache on technical board, 12 × 8 cm with a gilded bronze frame.
Description from the seller
Exquisite 19th-Century Miniature – Portrait of a High-Ranking Gentleman – Signature "Rodol" – Gilded Bronze Frame with a Louis XVI-style Ribbon
Technical Description:
Era: Circa 1880 (French/European School).
Technique: Oil or mixed media of high density on technical cardboard. The work stands out for the masterful use of the "Clave Alta", which endows the face with exceptional luminosity and distinction.
Artistic Detail (Ganila Real): The portrait presents extreme realism, historically known as the "ganila" technique, appreciable in the meticulous facial hair (imperial sideburns) and the transparency of the gaze. The brushwork is so fine that close observation is required to appreciate its mastery.
The Subject: Representation of a gentleman of the European high aristocracy or diplomacy. His formal attire (tailcoat with silk lapels and black bow tie) and his bearing reflect a high-status position in late 19th-century society.
Signature: Signed on the right side as "Rodol HueL" (or similar), corresponding to a master miniature painter for cabinet portraits for the elite.
Luxurious Frame: The work is framed in its original high-quality gilded bronze frame. The design features a bead border (perlé) and is crowned by an elegant Louis XVI-style ribbon motif, a symbol of distinction and prestige in French decorative arts.
Conservation Status: Excellent original condition. The cardboard support has kept the pigments vivid and fresh, and the bronze frame preserves its original patina and brightness with no visible restorations. A cabinet piece ready to be displayed in a high-level collection.
