Momento is a first edition hardcover monograph by George S. Zimbel, published in 2015 by Black Dog Publishing in English, consisting of 160 pages.
Description from the seller
Momento: Photographs by George S. Zimbel is a career-spanning monograph of the renowned American-Canadian documentary photographer George S. Zimbel (1929–2023). Published in 2015 by Black Dog Publishing, the book was released to coincide with the award-winning documentary film about his life, titled 'Zimbelism'.
The book captures Zimbel's 70-year commitment to "straight" photography, emphasizing honest, unvarnished depictions of daily life. While Zimbel is famous for his 1954 shots of Marilyn Monroe on the set of The Seven Year Itch, the book also features political figures like JFK, Eisenhower, and Truman, as well as ordinary working-class people and children. The work is described as a "Book of Love and Legacy," created in collaboration with his wife, writer and therapist Elaine Sernovitz Zimbel. Zimbel was one of the last members of the legendary Photo League and studied under masters like Alexey Brodovitch, which heavily influenced the documentary style presented in the book.
Condition: excellent hardcover, almost no signs of usage, interior clean and unmarked.
