Four vintage Chinese silver pendants, two gold-plated, in a 1920s–1950s Art Deco dynastic style, shaped as an articulated shrimp and red fish with cloisonné or guilloché enamel and a secret compartment under the snout, lengths 7.5 cm and 3.9 cm respectively, provenance from a private collection and in good original condition, authenticity official.
Description from the seller
Vintage Chinese pendants in the shape of a shrimp and a goldfish, characterized by an articulated and enamelled body signed SILVER. They are made of silver (two gilded) with cloisonné or guilloché enamel, typically dating from the Art Deco period between 1920 and 1950. The pendants feature an articulated design that allows the body of the shrimp and goldfish to move. These models include a small secret compartment opening beneath the snout (in the mouth). The fish are decorated with green and white enamel, with orange accents for the eyes. The distinctive feature of these pieces is the articulation. The body is composed of several overlapping segments, connected by pins or hinges. This allows the fish to curl or wriggle, imitating the natural movement of a crustacean. The legs and the fan-shaped tail are made with a very fine filigree technique, often associated with master goldsmiths from specific regions. In Chinese culture, the goldfish is a powerful symbol of wealth, abundance, and good fortune, which makes it a recurring motif.
Pendant/Charm: One can notice a ring attached to the nose, indicating that it was intended as a pendant for a necklace or a charm for a bracelet. These vintage articulated charms are highly sought after by collectors. They measure: shrimp 7.5 cm long – goldfish 3.9 cm long. All 4 weigh 0.032 g.
