Description:
5 Cuts is an artist's book by Stephanie Oursler, published and presented in Rome in 1975, in the same year as Un Album di Violenza, considered one of the most significant artist's books of the seventies.
The work takes the form of a visual poem, composed of a sequence of black-and-white images accompanied by handwritten texts. The images — frames from unidentified silent films — were recovered by the artist and paired with an autobiographical narrative, giving rise to a story that is at once intimate and constructed.
The book interweaves personal dimension and political reflection, exploring territories that lie beyond language and image, in line with the experimental practices of artist's books in the seventies.
