Description from the seller
Attention: due to customs regulations we can only ship inside the European Union. Please ensure you have a valid EU shipping address before placing a bid.
Ring holding a high quality dome shaped 'Sulemani' Eye agate which is valued in many cultures for its spiritual and protective properties. The stone features concentric bands resembling an eye. The gemstone shows a semi translucent dark-to light brown domed layer (imitating the lens of the eye) on a white concentric band followed by a dark brown bottom layer.
-> The term 'Eye' agate emphasises the gemstone's significance as a protective talisman, believed to ward off evil, provide clarity, and promote spiritual well-being.
Outside diameter: ± 22,4 mm
Inside diameter: ± 19,7 - 16,1 mm
Bead: ± 10,9 x 9,6 x 7,4 mm
Bead: Ottoman, 17th-18th century
Ring: modern (gold-plated)
Condition: good and solid condition, wearable. High quality gemstone.
Certificate of Authenticity: available upon request (pdf-format).
This bead belongs to the tradition of Suleimani Aqeeq, a banded agate much admired in the Ottoman and broader Near Eastern world. Examples with eye-like natural banding were particularly favoured as protective beads, thought to deflect the evil eye, while aqeeq in general was worn as an auspicious and valued stone in Islamic personal adornment.
