We are looking at a Art Nouveau style side table, probably produced between the 1940s and 1950s. The table features a marquetry design, solid structure and precious bronze details typical of luxury manufacturings of the early 20th century. Decorated with floral motifs characteristic of this style, Art Nouveau inspiration. The item has approximate dimensions of 60 cm in height and 60 x 38 cm in width and depth. This type of side tables often adorned the interiors of luxurious homes and emblematic buildings during the peak of the Art Nouveau style and into the mid-20th century.
Main Features
1. Materials and Manufacturing Technique
Noble woods in both the structure and the central marquetry rosette. Very valuable bronze details in the leg reinforcements.
2. Art Nouveau Style
Art Nouveau emerged in the final decades of the 19th century and the early 20th century and continued to influence decoration into the 1960s. It reflected a growing fascination with natural materials and flowing, curved designs. The lamp shown in the image resembles this movement, especially in the symmetry details in the bronze that forms its main structure, and in the geometry of the crystal pieces, aligned perfectly in circles or squares depending on the design.
3. Historical Context
Art Nouveau symbolized beauty and a sweet nod to classicism, employing luxury materials such as bronze, which, along with the introduction of electricity, transformed interior design. These kinds of lamps were often found in luxurious mansions, theaters and grand foyers. The 1920s were globally challenging due to the Great Depression; nevertheless, this style continued to spread for what it represented: luxury, modernity and functionality.
