This book covers clockmaking in Western Europe after the invention of the pendulum by Christiaan Huygens around 1658. After a clear introduction about the invention of Chr. Huygens, about 80 clocks are described in detail and provided with many excellent color photographs. This is a rare book in which the top of Dutch and English clockmaking is brought together. Salomon Coster, Thomas Tompion, Severijn Oosterwijck, Claude Pascal, Daniel Quare and many other top clockmakers from the 17th and 18th centuries are reviewed.
