Description from the seller

Natural knobbly staff, an incredible example of what in English is called Burr Wood or Knobbly Stick. A ambre/ honey-colored fruitwood staff, hand-carved with an L-shaped grip. Top-level workmanship, a true collectible piece. The protrusions along the entire shaft are carved from a thicker, carved trunk. The 'Spina' of iron (of which only the nail is visible) says that the staff was designed for real use in the mountains or on rough terrain. The metal was used to grip rock and ice, while protecting the wood from wear and from ground moisture. Estimated period: 1920–1950. Size: 85 cm long. The leather lanyard: The lanyard passes through a through-hole drilled in the wood and is secured with a simple knot. This lanyard was used to slip around the wrist to prevent the staff from accidentally slipping during the walk, keeping the hands free when needed.
