Erwin Olaf - OWN - 2012

"OWN" by Erwin Olaf is an impressive photobook that offers an overview of his personal work between 1984 and 2012. The book contains 368 pages full of carefully composed images that balance between documentary and staged photography.

Themes: Olaf explores topics such as class, race, sexuality, and religion. His style is often noir and inspired by the 1950s. The book includes work from series such as Rain (2004), Hope (2005), Grief (2007), Fall (2008), Dusk (2009) and Dawn (2010), in which he undermines ideals of domestic happiness. His images are technically refined, emotionally charged, and often confrontational, but always made with respect and aesthetics.
