The vast majority of Tchokwé objects are decorated with figures and geographic motifs. The Tchokwé use several masks. The cikugu mask, made of plant fibers and cloth, covered with black, white and red pigments, is worn during initiation ceremonies to the Mukanga society and to exorcise villages.
The male mask cihongo, made of wood, has a horizontal beard and large bulging eyes. It symbolizes wealth and power. The mask bearer, responsible for harvesting tribute given to the chief, covers himself with a vegetal net. This mask also confers judicial power on its wearer.
The Tchokwé mask "pwo" with its characteristic scarifications on the forehead and cheeks. It represents the ideal woman or mother. It brings fertility where it dances.
The kalelwa and cikunza masks, worn during initiation ceremonies, are vegetal masks with tall elaborately shaped headdresses.
The tchowké have created statues, fetishes, masks, stools, scepters, tobacco boxes, pipes, whistles, combs, drums,...
