Origin: Italy. Model: Rinascimento Cantù lace antique matrimoniale linen bedspread, handmade, 270 cm by 280 cm.
Description from the seller
"Antique matrimonial bedspread in pure linen and hand-made Cantù/Renaissance lace" Beautiful example of an artisanal linen bedspread with lace inserts, a classic antique ensemble that represents a value not only economic, but above all historical and artisanal. • Material: The base fabric appears to be a high-quality linen (or a very fine linen-cotton blend), recognizable by the natural sheen and the characteristic slightly irregular weave. The color is a refined ivory/cream white. • Work (Cantù Lace or Renaissance): The inserts are made with bobbin lace technique (similar to Cantù style) or Renaissance stitching. A large central medallion with floral motifs is visible, surrounded by an elaborate "frame" of scrolls that extends over the entire surface. • Details: • Cutwork Stitch: The lace is joined to the linen through a meticulous cutwork technique (hand-finishing of the edges where the fabric was removed to make way for the lace). • Edge: The perimeter is finished with a coordinated, thinner lace that echoes the central motif. The complexity of the design (very extensive and not limited to the borders) and the integrity of the linen. It shows no signs of wear; never used.
