Description from the seller
Pair of Two Antique Victorian 'Press-back' Windsor Armchairs
Set of two (2) English Windsor armchairs, model 'Captain’s Chair'.
Dating: Late-Victorian, circa 1880 - 1900.
Material: Fully made of solid oak with a rich, well-worn patina.
Description:
An exceptionally matching pair of antique Windsor chairs of high quality. The chairs are equipped with a characteristic 'press-back' upper rail with beautifully detailed woodcarving (scrollwork/roundel motif). The construction shows the classic Windsor characteristics: a deeply projecting saddle seat, continuous spindles and turned legs connected by an H-shaped rail (stretcher) for maximum stability.
Condition:
The chairs are in an authentic, unrestored state. Structurally very solid with the original mortise-and-tenon joints. The wood exhibits a beautiful natural wear on the armrests and seat, in keeping with the age. There are normal cracks consistent with age, which do not affect stability. Free from active woodworm.
Dimensions:
Total height: 91 cm
Seat height: 45 cm
Seat width: 46 cm
