Description from the seller
They are a pair of five-light candelabras made in gilded bronze, crafted with that theatrical refinement so characteristic of Napoleon III’s taste. Each piece is organized around a central cherub carved in the round, seated on a rocaille base and holding a small flaming attribute that acts as the visual axis. The figure, with soft anatomy and a serene expression, adds an intimate and almost playful touch to the ensemble, balancing the exuberant ornamentation above.
From the rear of the cherub rises a sinuous shaft, enriched with leaves, scrolls, and volutes that unfold into a branching arrangement of curved arms. These arms culminate in five candleholders arranged in a crown, each with a cup and finely chiseled bobeches. The bronze preserves a warm gilding, with nuances that enhance the volumes and depth of the modeling.
The set conveys that blend of theatricality, luxury and fantasy so characteristic of the Second Empire: pieces designed to dress a drawing room, a sideboard, or a console with light, shine and sculptural presence.
Insured shipping and careful packaging.
