AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Magnificent antique globe from the publisher Jules Lebegue, Paris, published in 1908.
The globe is in exceptionally good condition. The color remains fresh and it is still very well preserved in the original varnish, which has hardly discolored.
There is not a single dent or crack in the globe, which is exceptional for an antique Lebegue globe. There is only a barely visible scratch near South Africa, which has been excellently retouched.
A fantastic globe in exceptionally good condition. A unique and valuable object.
As with many Lebegue globes it rests on an cast-iron base. In this case not the common and widespread Lebegue base, but a rare original Lebegue base with heads of people from Africa, China and First Nation America. The faces are depicted according to a colonial bias of how people would be generalized to look, and is indicative of the racism that underpinned colonialism. One could call it a sign of the times, were it not that even today many peoples and countries are still exploited by (neo)colonial Western countries. So besides the fact that it is a valuable globe in unusually good condition, it is also a unique historical document and therefore educational for us and future generations. It is therefore of great importance to cherish and preserve such a globe for the future.
But of course also of great importance to enjoy it fully now.
