Le Départ, 1897
Lithograph on wove paper
Signed on the plate lower right.
Estampe Moderne blind stamp on the bottom right corner.
Dimensions:
+Size of the sheet: approximately 40 x 30,5 cm / 15,7 x 12 in.
+Size of the image : 34,5 x 23,5 cm / 13,5 x 9,2 in.
Condition : In overall good condition with some soft handling creases and some minor stains in the margins. Image very clean otherwise. Tipped-on paper. Not framed.
Published by Masson & Piazza, Paris.
Not unlike the Maitres de L'Affiche series, L'Estampe Moderne was a portfolio printed between 1897-99, published by Imprimerie Champenois, Paris, contained 24 monthly portfolios, with four original lithographs in each. Each was commissioned only for this series.
As well as Mucha, some of the contributing artists included Rhead, Meunier, Ibels, Steinlen, Willette and Grasset.
