Exceptional Victorian Noble Dinnerware – (1833-1847) Copeland & Garrett (Late Spode) – Heredia Family Coat of Arms - 37 pieces.
"Description by an Expert:
Summary and Provenance:
This presents an English fine porcelain dinner service of extraordinary historical importance, manufactured by the prestigious Copeland & Garrett (Stoke-on-Trent). The set belongs to the exclusive period "Late Spode" (1833-1847), a 14-year transitional phase highly valued for its technical mastery. It is a bespoke heraldic commission for the Heredia family, one of the most prestigious Spanish noble houses.
Technical Analysis:
All pieces bear on the reverse the Copeland & Garrett crown and wreath mark, accompanied by the pattern number 8622 hand-painted in red. Made in "Bone China" of a crystal-clear white, the dinnerware is notable for its Rococo-inspired decoration with lobed edges, cobalt blue band, and 24k gold profiles.
Heraldry and Motto:
The dinnerware is crowned by the Heredia family coat of arms, featuring a coronet and flanked by a scroll with the family motto: "AT SPES NON FRACTA" (But Hope is Not Broken). The multicolored heraldic execution is of exceptional quality.
Detailed Inventory (37 pieces):
The lot retains the most complex and valuable service pieces of the original set:
1 Grand Gala Soup Tureen: With its lid and a large presentation tray (masterpiece).
1 Medium Soup Tureen: With lid and original interior strainer (rare technical piece).
2 Covered Vegetable Dishes: With ornate lids.
2 Double-handle Gravy Boats: With fixed presentation plates.
1 Pedestal Salad/Bowl: With raised foot and gilded reliefs (Note: small nick on the base).
22 Flat Dinner Plates.
8 Deep Soup Plates.
Condition Report:
In Good Antique Condition for its nearly 190 years of age. The porcelain retains its vitreous shine and the heraldic colors remain vivid. There is fine crazing in the glaze, some firing spots, and minor "hairs" typical of authentic mid-19th-century porcelain. Slight natural wear to the gold edge due to age. Pieces intended for high decoration and investment collection.
LOGISTICS & PICK-UP (IMPORTANT):
LOCAL PICK-UP ONLY IN MADRID CITY CENTER (SPAIN). Due to the extreme fragility of Victorian porcelain and the volume of service pieces, no shipping is provided. The location has easy access for loading onto a private vehicle.
