Single vintage magazine rack in brown wood with brass lion’s-claw feet, inspired by antique style, circa 1955–1975, 74 cm high, 49 cm wide, 28 cm deep, weighing about 6 kg, made of wood resembling mahogany with some parts plywood, in good condition with minor signs of wear and stains, featuring a lift-out mid-section that can form a small table and can be detached from the base.
Description from the seller
Very decorative magazine rack. The magazine rack is fitted with lion’s claw feet made of brass, which are very typical of the 18th‑century Chippendale style, but this kind of furniture was also made in the 20th century. Especially in the Art Nouveau and Art Deco periods (the 1920s and 1930s) but also in the 1950s, '60s and '70s. In those times you often saw brass claws that slid over the wood (as with this rack). You could call it Mid‑Century & Hollywood Regency (1950s–1970s). In the 1950s, '60s and '70s claw feet and brass accents were widely used to give furniture a chic, glamorous or “retro” look, often in combination with materials such as walnut, mahogany or glass.
The rack is 74 cm tall. The magazine section is 49 cm wide and 28 cm deep, and the legs are 50 cm apart. The weight is about 6 kg.
This rack is made from a type of wood that resembles mahogany. Some parts are indeed not; this is made of plywood, but the legs appear to be mahogany.
What is particularly striking is the top that can be raised from the middle of the rack and laid flat, forming a small side table (see photos). On it you can place a bottle, a glass and a book, which gives the rack the function of a reading table as well (see photos). The top is not completely horizontal, but the bottle remains stable.
The rack shows logical signs of use that are typical for a piece of furniture perhaps as old as 65 years. The wood here and there has some wear spots and there are also damages on the olive‑green vinyl covering the tabletop (see photos). However, it is still 100% stable and safe to use as a magazine rack and reading table.
The piece is a special and atmospheric item that fits into any kind of interior!
The magazine section can be unscrewed from the leg base. This way it will also be shipped to keep the package as compact as possible.
The package is carefully packed and shipped insured."} } )
