Authentic late 19th‑century grain scoop in wood with wrought iron profiles, 64 cm wide, 14.5 cm high and 25 cm deep, weighing about 2.2 kg, in reasonable condition with heavy use and possible missing small parts.
Description from the seller
Very decorative grain scoop. The grain scoop was made in the 19th century and may come from Spain or France, but could also simply originate from the Netherlands. It is a very beautiful example of folk art. The grain scoop is made of wood that, with old-fashioned joinery (such as the mortise-and-tenon joint, where part of one panel fits exactly into a hole of another panel; a very strong joint, which can only be made by a true craftsman) in combination with iron profiles (see photos).
This grain scoop dates from the 19th century. What kind of wood was used is unclear, but it is probably taken from an old piece of furniture that was dismantled. Nothing was thrown away in the old days!
This grain scoop weighs a little over 2 kg. It is 64 cm wide, 14.5 cm high and 25 cm deep. With the handle placed at the front, and the rod at the back, it is a handy and balanced scoop that could still be used, although there are here and there some pieces of wood chipped off over the years.
This grain scoop is a typical example of folk art. Very decorative, for example hanging on a wall, but also still functional. It can still be used as a storage space for items, or for example as a magazine rack on a long table; this grain scoop could serve very well!
The grain scoop is carefully packed and insured for shipping.
