Copper engraved map of Denmark entitled ‘Dania Regnum’, created by the renowned German engraver and publisher Matthäus Merian the Elder (1593–1650). The map is taken from Merian’s famous work ‘Neuwe Archontologia Cosmica’ (published by Johann Ludwig Gottfried), ca. 1638
In the top right-hand corner is an ornate title cartouche flanked by two figures and featuring the Danish coat of arms. Another coat of arms is depicted in the top left-hand corner. In addition to the core Danish territories (Jutland, Zealand, Funen), the map also shows parts of southern Sweden and northern Germany.
On handmade paper with a beautiful watermark.
