Description from the seller

Russian Orthodox quadruple-panel icon of the Marian type with a central crucifixion, dating from the 19th century.

In the four corners appear different Marian titles with the Child, highly venerated in the Russian tradition:

Top left: a variant of the Virgin Theotokos Sovereign or Enthroned.
Top right: an image close to Hodigitria (“She who shows the Way”).
Bottom left: a representation of the Eleusa type (“of tenderness”), where the Child affectionately approaches Mary.
Bottom right: another protective Marian variant, probably related to the Kazan tradition or a local Russian title.

In the center stands the Crucifixion of Christ, with small side figures of the Virgin and Saint John, thus integrating the Mystery of the Passion with Mary’s intercession.

Above the cross there is a small figure of a monastic or protective saint, possibly added as a protector of the family or of the workshop iconography.

Dark, sober background,
fine drawing,
elongated faces,
inscription in ecclesiastical Slavonic.
