Original Huanghuali wood Chinese abacus (Suanpan) from China, dating to circa 1950–1960, 13-rod configuration with a 2/5 system, dimensions 32 x 18 x 3 cm, provenance from gallery/antiquarian, condition described as discrete.
Description from the seller
For sale, a refined and authentic Chinese abacus (Suanpan) dating from the 1950s-1960s, crafted from precious Huanghuali wood (Dalbergia odorifera).
Huanghuali wood is famous among collectors for its spectacular grain, the characteristic ghost-eye knots, and its warm natural luster, features clearly visible in this specimen.
Main Features:
• Material: Solid Huanghuali wood with brass reinforcements and fittings.
• Dimensions: 32 x 18 x 3 cm.
• Era: Approximately 1950-1960.
• Configuration: Traditional 13-column with 2/5 system (two beads on the upper part and five on the lower part).
Condition:
The item is in excellent overall condition, with a beautiful patina from time that enhances its historical value.
• Collector note: Two small brass fixing elements (decorative corner brackets/nails) are missing on one side of the frame.
• Aside from this detail, the abacus is intact and complete in every part (beads and frame). The beads slide perfectly on the original rods.
