Description from the seller
The little jug shows the classic Helmet Shape (Helmet Shape), which was especially popular in the late Georgian era. The entire outer surface is decorated with elaborate repoussé work: floral motifs, flowing Rocaille cartouches and floral garlands testify to masterful craftsmanship.
An empty cartouche on the façade originally offered space for a monogram or family crest – it was never engraved and is therefore untouched.
The tall, raised band handle with fine ribbed texture sits comfortably in the hand. Special highlight: The inside is fully gilt (vermeil) – a typical quality feature of upscale pieces that protected the silver from acid in milk and cream.
Punzen
On the underside are the typical London hallmarks:
• Lion passant (Sterling Silver 925/1000)
• Leopard head (City mark London)
• Date letter
• Master mark
All hallmarks are clearly legible and attest to authenticity and origin
Very well preserved for a piece over 220 years old:
• No cracks, holes or repairs
• Handle firm and stable
• Internal gilding largely intact with age-appropriate patina
• Slight signs of wear on the base (as befits the age)
• Hallmarks complete and legible
