Nerolia table lamp designed by Ferdi Giardini for Oluce, model 209, in transparent amber glass, with a dimmer, 29 cm high and 11 cm wide, produced in Italy in the 2000s.
Description from the seller
For sale: Nerolia lamp, designed by Ferdi Giardini for Oluce in 2001. It is a bedside lamp with an innovative design, also usable as a diffuser for essences. The product, cylindrical in shape, is made of crystal clear glass; the container for aromatic essence, together with the lampshade, is made of amber-toned glass.
New, never used, intact, original, complete with packaging, perfectly functional and equipped with a dimmer function, complete with the bulb.
Oluce was founded in 1945, right after World War II, and is currently the oldest lamp manufacturer still active in Italy. Its name is a contraction of the founder’s surname initial, “O” for Giuseppe Ostuni, and “Luce,” meaning light.
The present table lamp was launched in 2001: it is the model 209 “Nerolia,” signed by the Italian designer Ferdi Giardini and made in transparent and orange multi-colored glass. Reminiscent of an hourglass, the lamp is operated via a wire dimmer, which allows adjusting the light intensity to create different atmospheres.
The Nerolia 209, designed by Ferdi Giardini in 2001, is an excellent example of Oluce’s ability to combine glassmaking tradition with contemporary design. Its hourglass shape, made of blown glass in clear and orange, creates a fascinating play of transparencies and light diffusion, confirming the company as a benchmark in Italian design.
Ferdi Giardini
Born in 1959 in Turin, he graduated in 1982 from the Turin Academy of Fine Arts, Scenography course. He worked as a set designer until 1985-86.
In 1986 he held his first solo sculpture exhibition at the Franz Paludetto gallery in Turin. Conversely, his more recent solo shows led him, in 2000, to Milan at the 1000 Eventi gallery, to Turin at the Carbone gallery, and to Barcelona at Forma Libera gallery in 1999. In parallel, he developed his activity as a trainer and contributed to the creation of the first “environments” for children (playrooms) in Turin.
Oluce, with Flos, with Artemide, and Fontana Arte represents the peak of lighting design in Italy. Noce represents the complement to Knoll, Vitra or Cassina furniture.
