Murano - Paperweight - Glass

This magnificent paperweight is a refined example of the savoir-faire of Murano glass masters (Venice). The center features an elegant inclusion of a finely detailed Capricorn, created with a gilding on a black background technique, creating a striking contrast.

The central motif is encircled by two rows of murrines (millefiori) in shades of blue, green and white. These glass canes are arranged symmetrically to accentuate the depth of the object beneath the dome of transparent crystal.
Origin: Murano, Italy (attributed to workshops such as Fratelli Toso or A.VE.M, typical mid-20th century style).

Theme: Zodiac Sign - Capricorn.

Technique: Millefiori (glass mosaic) and central inclusion decorated with gold.

Base: Ground and polished base, showing slight wear consistent with age (sign of authenticity).
The object is in very good overall condition. The surface of the dome is well preserved with a beautiful shine. A few micro-scratches from use under the base are visible, invisible when the object is displayed, and a slight missing piece under the base (see photo).
