Description from the seller
This catalogue was published in conjunction with the exhibition displaying Cornell Capa’s donation to the Museo Reina Sofía of 205 photographs of the Spanish Civil War taken by Robert Capa. Series centred on the defence of Madrid, the bombing of Barcelona and exodus via the French border, and other unreleased series, for instance notebooks of contacts, reignite the vision described by John Steinbeck: “Capa knew what to look for and what to do with it when he found it. He knew, for example, that you cannot photograph war because it is largely an emotion”. The selection of images alternate with texts written during the conflict by figures such as Dolores Ibárruri and Antonio Machado, among others.
Very good copy!
