Description from the seller
Herbie Yamaguchi is a Japanese photographer born in 1950 in Tokyo. He graduated in Economics before moving to London in 1973, where he resided for the next decade. In London, he joined a music company and performed for a while. Soon he began to capture daily life with his camera and vividly documented the development of subcultural movements, especially the punk scene of 1970s London, inspired by his own experiences. Among his early works, his photographs of punk rock musicians such as Joe Strummer (The Clash) received great recognition. Returning to Tokyo, he continued traveling around Europe to photograph artists and unknown people. Currently, he also writes for magazines and participates in television and radio programs. He is a visiting professor at Osaka University of Arts.
According to the author: "In the fashion industry, the 'layered look' refers to a style that consists of wearing layered garments. In photography, a snapshot is usually more fascinating when it captures virtual images, such as faces reflected in a mirror or landscapes in a storefront, together with real objects around it. By the way, each of us is composed of many layers of different aspects, such as ancestry, education, hope, despair, travel, the time elapsed, the environment, etc. Life itself is, therefore, a 'layer'."
In addition to the book, I am attaching a limited-edition gelatin-silver print (1/10) also signed by the author. The book is in like-new condition.
