Beautiful Russian Orthodox brass icon with a depiction of Saint Nicholas the Wonderworker, richly executed with multicolored enamel in blue, green, yellow, and red. This type of enameled devotional icon was particularly loved in the 19th century within the Russian Orthodox tradition and was used as a home icon or personal protective object.
Description
The icon shows Saint Nicholas centrally, recognizable by his bishop's robes, blessing hand, and the Gospel book he holds. The saint is depicted with a halo and is flanked by small angelic and saintly figures in relief.
