This is an antique19th-century hand fan. The fan features hand-painted scenes, often depicting courtly life or pastoral scenes. It is made from sticks and guards of mother-of-pearl or bone, often with inlaid decorations. Similar items have been identified as dating from the Napoleonic III era or in French style, or as items of Spanish origin.
