Gumball machine, model 33, made in Italy, with a yellow cast-iron base and glass globe, metal construction, 24 cm high, 12 cm wide and 12 cm deep, weighing 600 g, tested and operating, dating to the 1950s–1960s in a Mid-Century Modern vintage style.
Description from the seller
This machine is a classic gumball dispenser, an object that has marked the history of vending and pop culture.
The first dispensers appeared in the USA around 1888 thanks to the Thomas Adams Gum Co.. Initially they did not sell colored balls, but gum in sticks or blocks on New York railway platforms.
The true revolution occurred in 1907 with the introduction of the first models equipped with the characteristic glass globe to dispense round and colorful gums.
In 1933, with model 33 from the Northwestern Corporation, these machines became ubiquitous in every bar and grocery. Another historic brand was the Ford Gum and Machine Company, known for the chrome "Carousel" dispensers.
This model has a base in colored metal (here in a vibrant yellow) and floral decorations on the coin slot, a tribute to the retro style of the 1950s and ’60s.
In Italy, these "gum machines" became popular especially after the Second World War, bringing with them vintage charm that still endures today as a decorative object.
