Description from the seller
Eero Saarinen
Curated by Domitilla Dardi
Series directed by Andrea Branzi
Eero Saarinen was one of the most visionary designers of the twentieth century, an architect and designer capable of bridging Modernism toward organic, sculptural and deeply expressive forms. Born in Finland and the son of the celebrated Eliel Saarinen, he moved to the United States where he developed a unique style, distancing himself from the geometric rigor typical of the period to explore the potential of curves and new industrial materials.
Saarinen revolutionized domestic furniture through his historic collaboration with Knoll. His objective was to simplify the living environment, freeing it from what he called the "chaos of legs" of traditional furniture. From this research emerged the famous Tulip Collection, with its single-pedestal base that has become an icon of world design, together with the Womb Chair, a chair designed to envelop the body in absolute comfort. Died prematurely at the height of his success, Saarinen continues to influence generations of architects thanks to his ability to unite bold engineering and artistic sensibility.
Branzi A., Domitilla D..; Eero Saarinen: The Masters of Design. Paperback, 20 x 26.5 cm, 120 pages, Italian language; Milan, 24 Ore Cultura, 2011.
